SECURITY INFORMATION FOR
2009/2010 SCHOOL YEAR

From: Mr. Jeffrey Price

Forest Park High School

Dear Parent:

Another school year is upon us again. If this is your child’s first year at Forest Park, we want to welcome them and hope these years in high school are memorable and enjoyable for them. I want to go over a few items with you for this school year and reiterate some existing policies that have been in place for the safety and security of all students here at Forest Park.

First, please remember that although your student is allowedto bring electronic devices to school, these items are extremely valuable and unfortunately, prime targets for theft. The Prince William County Schools Code of Behavior specifically states, electronic devices must not be visible and cannot be activated before or during the school day. The power on these devices must be turned off prior to entering school. Leaving the device on “vibrate”, “silence”, or “ringer off” is not acceptable. If your student makes the wrong decision and chooses to bring these devices to school, they may learn a valuable lesson if they are left unattended or the item turns up missing. If your student reports these items as missing or stolen, it will be their responsibility and no further action will be taken. School division staff does not assume responsibility for the security of electronic devices that are brought onto school property.

Dress codes…..no hats (including doo-rags) of any kind are allowed to be worn in the building. These items must be put in the student’s wall locker and should NOT be carried around or they will be taken. No bandannas of any color are allowed to be worn or shown, again they will taken.

Finally, for those who have students that have or will be driving to school…..we have several hundred students who drive to school on a daily basis. Those students must adhere to the rules and regulations established by the school. Each student is required to register their vehicle with the security office by filling out the proper paperwork. Every student must display a valid Forest Park High School parking permit that must be displayed on the rear view mirror at all times while on school property. If your student’s parking permit is stolen or has been misplaced, report it to security immediately so a new permit can be issued. Paperwork can be picked up in the security office or the main office area that requires both the student and parent signatures. A fee of $100.00 is assessed. Only cash or money orders will be accepted. Please note…..BEGINNING MONDAY, 19 OCTOBER 2009, TOWING WILL BE ENFORCED FOR THOSE STUDENT’S NOT PRESENTING A VALID STUDENT PARKING PERMIT. Also, students who are chronically tardy, disregard school policies or are observed driving recklessly will have their parking permit suspended and /or revoked and may be subject to other disciplinary action. All accidents that happen in the parking lot MUST be reported to security immediately and no student will leave the scene of an accident until security or the School Resource Officer arrives.

If your student has been assigned a locker, please tell them to use it to lock up their personal items. This is especially important in the locker rooms when changing to attend P.E. classes and not to leave book bags on the floor or clothing left unattended.

If you have any questions or would like to contact me, I can be reached between the hours of 7:00AM to 3:00 PM at 703-583-3279. I look forward to another great school year.
